About The Clinical Training Center For Sexual And Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH)

Serving the Nation’s Title X Workforce

Since 2006, the newly-renamed Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH) has delivered training to over 3,000 Title X clinical services providers annually. We accomplish this through live and on-demand webinars, e-learning, as well as onsite and virtual national clinical training meetings like our annual National Reproductive Health Conference (NRHC).

Over 17 years, we have developed expertise, familiarity, and understanding of the diverse needs of the Title X family planning services delivery network and work to ensure they have access to the latest evidence-based tools to do their work. Through our years of service, we have also developed credible relationships with sexual and reproductive health-focused organizations at national and local levels.

Our goal is to serve Title X clinical services providers to increase their capacity to deliver high-quality sexual and reproductive health services. Recognizing that Title X clinics serve a diverse group of people, we design, develop, and implement our trainings and resources with a focus on quality, equity, and access at the core. We affirm the need for men's health in Title X projects and services for anyone who can become pregnant, including cisgender women, transgender men, nonbinary people, and others.

Here are ways we are training the nation’s sexual and reproductive health clinical workforce:

  1. Our clinical skills training is free for providers from Title X recipient organizations; there is a nominal fee for Non-Title X providers.
  2. We create resources as well as curate additional resources from partner organizations, which are all free and accessible to the public.
  3. We host the annual National Reproductive Health Conference, which is subsidized for Title X providers and other closely related DHHS-funded organizations.
  4. We work closely with the Reproductive Health National Training Center (RHNTC) to support Title X-funded projects.

The CTC-SRH is managed by the Collaborative to Advance Health Services at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Learn more about our team.

Announcement

New Name, Same Clinical Training Center

Founded as the National Clinical Training Center for Family Planning (NCTCFP) in 2006, we changed our name to the Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH) in 2023. We have been funded by the Office of Population Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services since inception and remain the primary source of clinical training for those providing sexual and reproductive health care in federally-funded settings.

Having served the Title X network for nearly two decades, our team of clinical experts recognized that the term “family planning” falls short of describing the client-centered and inclusive sexual and reproductive health services we offer, especially in an increasingly urgent and rapidly shifting healthcare landscape.

Committed to Excellence in Clinical Sexual and Reproductive Health Training

The CTC-SRH is committed to maintaining its professional excellence to train the nation’s Title X workforce. Therefore, we incorporate nationally recognized standards of care and applicable federal and professional medical associations’ published clinical recommendations, into training design, curricula development, and material creation.

We use evidence-based information, best or promising practices, and/or evidence-based practices in all aspects of training and technical assistance. Finally, we stay vigilant to the needs of the Title X network and the patient communities, which continue to serve as guides for the development of all the CTC-SRH’s education, training, and technical assistance priorities.

Priority areas addressed by the CTC-SRH’s training materials include:

  • Sexual health assessment
  • Personal family planning
  • Fertility and reproductive goal setting
  • Range of acceptable/effective family planning services (including fertility awareness-based methods (FABM)/natural family planning (NFP)
  • Pregnancy testing and counseling
  • Health screenings

Clinical Training For The Nation’s Title X Workforce

The Clinical Training Center for Sexual and Reproductive Health (CTC-SRH) (formerly known as the National Clinical Training Center for Family Planning (NCTCFP)) has been providing training and technical assistance to Title X clinical services providers for 17 years. Clinical training activities are consistently contextualized within a client-centered, inclusive, trauma-informed care background which protects the dignity of the individual, and ensures equitable and quality service provision.

We are reputed for delivering professional education that is relevant and timely, using innovative, learner-centered synchronous, and asynchronous modalities. Since being established in 2006, the CTC-SRH is the primary source of clinical training for those providing sexual and reproductive health care in federally-funded settings. Through the pandemic, we began to increasingly focus on delivering online training to reach a wider section of the Title X workforce and do so more cost-effectively.

The CTC-SRH strives to provide a variety of educational opportunities based on sound methodologies to support the professional development of Title X clinical services providers no matter where they are in their careers. New or less-experienced providers can access resources for basic sexual and reproductive health care provision, while experienced and highly-experienced providers can find the latest updates and the application of new research findings to maintain and strengthen their clinical practice.

Resources For Clinical Sexual And Reproductive Health Training

With the evolving landscape following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health decision, it is even more necessary to build a supportive and inclusive workforce and workplace culture for those providing essential sexual and reproductive health services. Title X providers play a critical role in ensuring equitable access to high-quality, client-centered family planning care for millions of low-income or uninsured individuals every year. CTC-SRH values diversity, equity, and inclusion and supports trainees from diverse backgrounds and clinical environments in clinically-focused professional development activities and leadership on all levels.

Didactic knowledge-building and hands-on skill-building opportunities provided by the CTC-SRH improve sexual and reproductive health education for clinical services providers and ultimately advance the health of those receiving services in Title X agencies. For this, we maintain and curate resources related to the most current research and standards of care to act as a resource on a broad range of clinical family planning, sexual and reproductive health, and other related preventive care issues for Title X grantees and their networks.
